LAURA ALFRED
Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist
My approach
to therapy
A strong and collaborative therapeutic relationship is
the foundation of insight, healing and personal growth.
I am a Clinical Psychologist and psychotherapist with over 25
years of experience supporting adults, adolescents, and
children as they deepen their self-understanding, learn how
to connect constructively and navigate the complexities of life.
I see your therapy as a journey — a space for exploration,
reflection, and growth. Anxiety and depression, for example, are
not simply symptoms to be managed, but signals that something
important within is seeking recognition and understanding.
Every person brings a unique history, rhythm, and way of being to the
therapeutic space and I aim to honour this. My approach is relational and psychodynamic at its core, grounded in curiosity about the emotional patterns and relational dynamics that shape inner experience and behaviour.
Depending on what best supports your process, I may also draw from complementary approaches such as mindfulness, parts work, somatic awareness, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), systems theory, attachment theory, non-violent communication and trauma-informed practice.
Through collaborative exploration, we work together to make sense of your background, context and current experiences. From there, we begin to develop a deeper understanding of your emotional life. This is a gradual process that unfolds over time as we trace the patterns that shape your inner world. These patterns can include the unconscious ways you protect yourself, the defences that have developed over time, and the recurring themes in how you experience and respond to your world. Your growing awareness allows space for new, more adaptive ways of relating to yourself and others.
The length and rhythm of our work will depend on your goals and circumstances. Whether brief or longer-term, my aim is to provide you with a safe and thoughtful space for meaningful psychological exploration and change.
